To provide some context for this post, and in case you didn't happen to see on my Instagram/don't follow me on social media, I was hired as a graphic designer! Six months of looking and hoping, and after a month of recruitment, I was offered a full time graphic designer job at a big company in the heart of the city. I can't begin to fully enunciate how happy I am, and how excited I am for my life to change.
It's my second week there, and it's been a mixture of being really overwhelmed, and just really happy to be somewhere new and learning a lot from the people around me. Travelling to and from the city is a bit of a pain but completely worth it because I am in love with what I do, and what I hope to achieve. My boss has been so patient and understanding these past few days while I try and navigate my way around the filing system and finding things I need to complete jobs. I did some work for other departments and got some really lovely feedback about my work, which was just so gratifying to hear. You can be the nicest person, but when someone comments on something you have done well & they are positive about it, that just overtakes everything else. Appreciation for a job well done isn't always as readily expressed as say a job that wasn't done well, so it's always good to savour and bask in those small victories.
In addition with my new work, I have been fortunate to see a turn in my wardrobe- pencil skirts, neutrals, stable greys, and a bright colour here and there have become the most reached for items in my wardrobe. I'm excited to see where this new element of clothing and styling takes me, and I always reach for a statement necklace to brighten up a plain shirt, or keep it simple and subtle with a print.
Being in the heart of the city is so inspiring. I was walking back from a meeting the other day when I came across this art installation named "Forgotten Songs" by Michael Thomas Hill.
This installation is very close to the office, and I happen to take a shortcut and came across it. It was raining, and I was feeling pretty hurried from the work I knew I had to do back at my desk, but seeing this, just quietened me in a way that surprised me more than anything else. There were these rather pretty and ornate bird cages, and on the ground were plaques explaining the installation- that the cages represented birds that used to live and sing in this area, and the cages were reminders of what used to be. As I walked underneath them, bird songs and sweet notes filled the misty air and it was such a moment for me- for something so beautiful to drown out the noise of the city around it, and just give passersby a moment of peace and serenity. I make a point to walk down this way to work every morning, as something beautiful to start off my day.
Because of this new change, I won't be posting as often as my time is now filled, but I love this blog dearly and will be keeping up with it as much as I can.
