The week that was | 23.02.2014 |
Oh my goodness it's been such a huge two weeks! I feel guilty for not updating as much as I would have liked to, but it's early Sunday morning and I have a little time to myself to catch up.
Over the last month or so I have been working super hard to try and find design work in any way I can, and I have been very lucky to score some freelance, part time work at Guide Dogs Australia. Guide Dogs Australia are a fantastic charity, working to bring essential services to those living with a vision impairment, as well as facilitating the training of seeing eye dogs, which I'm sure most of us have seen out and about. Working with Guide Dogs has really opened up my world view, and seeing the amazing things a human being can achieve, no matter what hand they're dealt in life. The work this charity does is amazing, and it's so gratifying to be a part of it.
For the moment it's a few design tidbits here and there, and I'm loving the atmosphere and work I am able to do. Having a reason to get up and go in the morning is something I have really missed since finishing up at uni last year, and getting out and about is always a refreshing thing.
Below are a few snap shots from the last few weeks:

Beautiful flowers on days out and about ♡
Getting pretty with pastels!
Visiting Mecca Cosmetica with my girl Clarissa on a girl's day out ♡
My beautiful Marc Jacobs logo ring from my love ♡
Library lovin' in Manly!
Working hard!
And probably one of the biggest surprises of the last week...
A brand spanking new Macbook Pro!
Not going to lie to you, it's about 1.34am on Sunday morning and I am still staring lovingly at this masterpiece. Mum surprised me and took me into the Apple store before work & asked me what I thought about this laptop & I was like yeah it's a great machine- durr, next thing I know we're walking out with it for me! I am truly spoilt ♡
That's the weeks that were for tonight/this morning. Stay tuned for a recent haul, featuring a cool/freaky looking phrenology bust, and plenty of stationery!
Stay fab~

"NEUTRAL" AW 14
The amount of times I wish I lived in a country with colder weather so I could wear half of this stuff is insane. But I digress.
My entire conscious life I have always loved a neutral/natural colour palette, simply because it goes with my own skin tone and style better than bright pops of colour, which of course I have no aversion to.
But there is something so timeless, so effortless and chic about neutral tones and staple pieces, like a pair of black pants with the perfect shoes and bag, or material skirt with a floppy hat.
Below are my pieces for Autumn/Winter 2014.

This week was another seemingly quiet one, spent mostly at home and hunting for work. I got to spend a little bit more time in Manly, just because spending time with the man friend is awesome, and being near the beach and fresh air does more for me than anything else.
My friend returned from a month overseas, and it's so great to be able to talk to her without it being 12am at night. I can't wait to see her in a couple of days, when she's not dragged down by jet lag of course, and it made me think about how much I missed her whilst she was away. She doesn't live close to me as such, but not speaking to her as often was definitely something I missed in a big way. It made me think about how university was such a huge part of my social life, and how I miss seeing and talking with people I have come to know as part of my everyday routine. And I will most definitely look forward to having a routine again.

Here's the past week & the week so far:
For those of you who don't know, the 26th of January is Australia Day, and most people get together and have a BBQ or a beer with mates. This year my family and I had a massive lunch together, decked with a sausage sizzle, lamingtons and pavlova, as pictured above. My aunt makes a mean pav.
Native Australian flowers my grandmother brought my mother.
Some cute chalk work by local kids at the local park.
Manly beach. Not bad for a backyard view!
Train selfie on the way to see Jimmy Carr at the Sydney Opera House! Such a great night with the man friend.
Cute succulents on my afternoon walks today.
My next post will be all about fashion inspirations, and a sort of look book style post which I'm very excited about putting together.
Stay tuned~

Managed to snap my work outfit today before I came home & crashed into bed and snored loudly. Accessories & clothing are listed under each photograph! ^_^
This is me today! I was at work when I snapped this (which I'm sure is obvious given my being surrounded by jewellery, haha) & this is the only shot of my whole outfit; I'm wearing a black work blouse, a Dotti Navy Blue Blazer jacket, and treated black denim pants from Big W. & even though you can't see them, I'm wearing Black Gold Topped Ballet Flats from Big W.
This is a Team piece provided by work. Most of the girls wear these flowers in their hair but I didn't really suit having a massive flower hanging off the side of my head, so I fixed it to my jacket. I liked how it looked, white always looks incredibly classy. These flowers come in a range of colours & are available at Lovisa stores.
This is the Roman Coin Silver necklace- you can't see the details of the coin in this photograph, but it's a very simple and dainty piece to wear; I especially love it on black shirts.
And lastly, my bracelets & rings! Out of everything I wear to work I always love wearing these bracelets together- they are a combination of many bangle packs, but you can buy the two spike bracelets separately. My middle finger ring is a Pandora Mother of Pearl with Gold Band ring, which was a very generous gift from my mum for my birthday, & the other is Arrow Open Band Ring from Tree of Life.
I felt quite lovely in my outfit today.
Stay tuned! x

It's funny how sometimes you have these little epiphanies, kind of like a miniature explosion of truth and clarity that resides in your mind. They can hit you whilst you're in the middle of doing the most mundane thing- like cleaning up, or walking to work, or even talking to someone.
I had an epiphany today, whilst talking to a girl who came into my work. She was a young girl, who looked like she was young enough to still be in high school. She asked me about job availabilities at my work, & I sadly told her that all the positions were currently full at my store. She continued to ask me if I knew anywhere that was hiring in Manly, & I saw how desperate she was to try and find some work. I thought back to when I had finished high school, and had found out that due to my terrible UAI, I wasn't able to get into any university course I applied for. I remember feeling so helpless and consumed by the fact that my future was unstable and uncertain, and I hated not knowing what was next for me, that all semblance of a path or plan was gone. I remembered going around to stores and shopping centres in my local area, armed with my resume, trying hard to find work while I tried to find a way around my predicament.
And now, five years later, at the final chapter of my university degree, I look back in amazement at how much has changed- who I was, who I am today, what I learned about myself, & how some things are just so temporary.
As the young girl left, it hit me on how blessed a life I live, & how extremely happy I am compared to the person I was five years ago. Everything happens for a reason, nothing is permanent, and even though uncertainty is scary, it can teach you so much about yourself you wouldn't have known if you didn't go through it.
To wrap up today's deep post, included below are some snaps from today.

Today's Jewellery of the Day- I posted these necklaces last week, & I felt really preppy with my gold & red matched with a blue blazer, blue and white striped business style shirt, treated black denim pants, & black studded loafers. Matched with these necklaces, a white band watch and gold bracelets.
I saw this beautiful little arrangement on my way to work this morning- I was working nine hours today & had a hell of a day ahead, & I walked past a florist & saw these lovely flowers in a bicycle basket. Little slice of perfect.
